In antiquity, this bridge was the famed location of a decisive battle between Emperors Constantine I and Maxentius for control of Rome. Today, however, it is very popular with the youth or Rome, particularly couples as a new tradition has arisen where lovers will hang a padlock on the bridge and throw the key into the Tiber River below.
