1920 Color Print William Prince Orange Silent Dutch Revolt Spain XEI8 XAEA2 War of the Spanish SuccessionThis is an original 1920 color print of the assassination of William I, Prince of Orange (1533 1584). He was also known as William the Silent and was the leader of the Dutch revolt against Spain that began the Eighty Years' War. He originally was a member of the court of the governor of the Spanish Netherlands, but grew unhappy with Spanish rule and turned against his former masters. In 1580, the Spanish king declared him an outlaw and William I was
