Pair of Tiny Ink and Photo Collage Drawings Indonesian fan I found these two bottes

I found these two bottes in New Hampshire

making me imagine a toll booth with a 25 cent passage fee

and there must once have been a crank mechanism that this "wheel" connected to

in turn warming the body of the hunter

I'm not quite sure if the bird was inlaid or just incised very finely and then painted/stained a slightly stronger red--but of it feels now like this happy surprise

I have no idea their story, but I love them, and clearly they've got age to them, late 19th c. or so, I would guess. Her forever reading, him forever fishing, the very top of his head and arch of his fishing line just out of the frame. Curious and I think very charming. Woman reading: 4 1 16" x 2 1 4".
