Hopi "Koroctu" Katchina Drawing, 1903 Bureau of American Ethnology Bookplate ringer's to be held up andThis bookplate came from the 1903 Bureau of American Ethnology at the Smithsonian Institution Annual Report (published in book format) featuring original drawings of Hopi Kachina drawn by native artists. These were primarily done by a 30 year old Hopi man named Kutcahanauu, or White Bear, who was hired by American anthropologist Jesse Walker Fewkles to visually record the hundreds of different kachinas revered by the tribe. I wish I had every plate in
