It is heavily rifled with 7 grooves, and most likely intended for hunting larger game. This example was actually made using a BRITISH TRADE back action percussion lock mechanism marked ATKINSON WARRANTED on the lock plate. This lock was made by Joseph Atkinson of Lancaster,
